Türkiye, Türk ve Türkçe. Senin kodlama Türkçe’yi çözüyor ama Türk için uygun değil gibi? Malazlı çok mu abes?

Yani aslinda kitap Kaminsodun malazlilari anlatmak icin yazdigi kitap diye anliyordum ben. 8 haric, onu Kruppe anlatiyor for some reason. Malazlilari anlatiyor tabi. Acaba ingilizcede bilmedigim bir olay mi var iste aslinda onlari anlatiyor seklinde. “Roman book of fallen” olsa burdan ne anlardik mesela?
edit: bu arada belki de cok fazla dusunuyoruzdur. bi tane roportajinda krala toll the hounds ne demek ikinci dilimiz ingilicce anlamiyoruz diye sormuslardi. Kral da demisti ki bisey degil kulaga hos geliyo diye koydum

Bence Malazan konusunda oynamaya gerek yok, İmparatorluğun ismi sonuçta. Ben -an’ı iyelik eki olarak değil de Malaz City’den türetilmiş olarak yorumladım. Malaz ve Malazan’ın birbiri yerine kullanımları seride.
Kitapların adları çok güzel, her biri Metal grubu ismi gibi maşallah, ancak serinin adı da, ilk seferde anlaşılmasa da, onlar kadar güzel.
Seriyi en güzel özetleyen isim harbiden de ‘‘Book of the Fallen’’. Fallen Soldiers, Fallen Gods, Fallen Kingdoms, Fallen Ones vb… Türkçe’ye tam olarak nasıl çevrilir bilemedim ama. Yitiklerin, kayıpların, kaybolanların olabilir. Son ikisi biraz YA kaçıyor ama olsun.

Ben şöyle düşünüyorum: Malazan: Kaybolanların Kitabı (veya Hikayesi). Perfume: A story of a Murderer gibi.
Edit: Niyeti şimdi anladım. Düşenlerin Türkçe Kitabı gibi düşünüp Malazca demişsin. Ama ben title’ı yukarıdaki gibi düşündüğüm için aklıma bile gelmedi. Yani benim

Vay arkadaş nokta atışı yapmışım. Soru gelene kadar hiç düşünmemiştim bunun üzerine. Malazan bir özel isimdir diyordum sonra resimlerde Malaz diye görünce aklıma bu geldi direkt.
Tişikürler 
Ben bu seriye acayip yükseldim fakat bir türlü gelmiyor. Çok tuhaf ikilemlerim var. Örneğin girift yapısı ve karmaşıklığı sebebiyle çıkar çıkmaz okuyacak olmaktan bir nebze tırsıyorum. Devam kitapları çok gecikirse direkt unutur, büyüsünden çıkarım çünkü. Fırtınaışığında da bu olmasın diye 3. kitabı bekledim ama bu sefer de 4 gelecek gibi değil, yine patladık iyi mi.

Anladim. Ben daha cok “kaminsod’un kitabinin turkce cevirisi” gibi anliyordum ama 
. ama muhtemelen toll the hounds’dakine benzer bir durum vardir diye dusunuyorum
Kesinlikle.
Onun en azından şöyle bir avantajı var. 10 kitap olsa da 5x2 şeklinde yazılıyor. Yani 5’er 5’er okunabiliyor. Bunda ise öyle bir durum yok.
Yine de ithaki sanırım 3 kitabı peş peşe çıkartmayı düşünüyor. Satışlar da iyi olursa öyle çok bekleneceğini sanmıyorum. Asıl problem satışlar düşük olursa hiç devam etmemeleri.

Tamam fahrenheit 451 olmaz ama kendi içinde sabit alıcı grubunu yakalayacaktır. Kurtarmayacak olsa zaten girmezlerdi hiç o işe.

Valla ben her kitaptan en az 3"er tane alıcam, artık elimden ne gelirse. Geek’ler bekliyor da kaç geek var önemli olan o. WoT gibi akmaz ama damlar diye düşünüyorlarsa sorun yok ama dediğin gibi Fahrenheit olmayacağı da aşikar.
Bir de tabi yayın evi sahibinin serinin fanı olma ihtimali de var. O zaman zaten hiç sorun kalmaz ama bu tamamen spekülasyon.
Buna endişe etmene hiç gerek yok. Zaten kesin etkinlik yaparız, ayrıca bir sürü de inceleme yazılır. Keza rehberler var, onlara yarım saat bakarak yeni okumuş gibi olursun.

Benim de korkum 8 senede tamamlanması serinin. Hoş, bence daha ilk kitapların çıkması bile ertelendikçe ertelenecek fuar gibi yerlerde çıkarmayı planladıkları müddetçe… Hatta bence o kadar ertelenecek ki ilk fırsatta çıkarttıklarında bunu direk yazarı Türkiye’ye getirerek yapacaklar. Nasıl ama? 
Tabii o zamana kitap başına ne kadar etiket fiyatı koymaya başlarlar kim bilir… Kongreleri, cenazeleri(!) falan yapıyorlar çatur çutur, bari fuarları da salsalar ya…

3 kitap çıkarırlarsa ben bile alırım.
En son Kadim Kanunlar fuara yetişiyordu. Şimdi bakanlık kısıtlamaları biraz gevsettik dese ve 2 ay sonra fuar yapılmasına izin veriyoruz dediğini düşünelim. Bu kitapları yetiştirebilme ihtimalleri var mı ? Neyse yine de enseyi karartmamak lazım. Umutluyum ben 2021’de geliyor.
Erikson yine ilginç bir şeyle karşımızda. Uzun zamandır tüm kitapları özel bir tek ciltte basmayı planlıyormuş ancak fiziksel olarak pek mümkün görünmüyormuş. Çift kolon ve küçük puntoyla bile 3 bin sayfadan fazla yapıyormuş.
A. P. Canavan’ın tavsiyesiyle daha önce çalıştıkları Subterranean Press ile görüşmüş ve onlar da tek değil de iki cilt olursa olabileceğini, ancak maliyetlerin yüksek olduğunu söylemişler. Ayrıca minimum baskı adeti de 500 imiş. Fiyat da 1000-1500 dolar arası olacakmış. Erikson da facebook sayfasında alır mısınız, bu işe girişelim mi diye soruyor.

Do I have your attention? Thought so. So I had this idea. It fuzzed its way into my brain years ago now, on a low simmer. It was kind of a pipe dream and I knew that, but it wouldn’t go away. Basically, my thought was: wouldn’t it be cool to have a single volume containing all ten novels of the Malazan Book of the Fallen. As a very limited production. Something with a thick leather-bound cover, maybe an iconic symbol embossed on the front and on the spine. And inside, on teeny-tiny font in two or even three columns, the entire text, printed on the kind of paper they use for holy books, with illuminated book and chapter headings, and a bunch of other added bells and whistles including never-before seen hand-drawn maps, old notes, and gilded edges to the pages.
Trapped in Covid isolation, I stirred the idea back to life, and put out a few feelers to local book-binding companies. The response was unanimous. Impossible to do. My electronic version of all ten novels in a single Word document, when converted to small font and each page split into two columns of text, topped out at over 3000 pages (if I recall). There’s no technology out there that can handle that (even converting the text to two columns made my powerbook sweat a bit).
I think it was in a conversation with A.P. Canavan about this idea, that he suggested I contact Subterranean Press. As a specialty publisher, maybe they had access to binders who like a challenge. So I sent them a rough description of my idea and they were intrigued (and Sub Press definitely loves a challenge).
They bounced the idea off two binders in quick succession. One thing was immediately obvious. One volume wouldn’t work. But two could.
But we hit a roadblock and it was a major one. Printing alone would be costly. Using colour and then plates would be even costlier. Leather binding and all the rest, costlier still. Add in slip-casing and the production budget just keeps on climbing.
Now, I’m aware that individual Sub Press editions of the series sometimes go for a chunk of money on e-bay, and full-sets are sometimes offered for almost obscene amounts. Those readers who have bought all ten books have spent over a grand in total (or is it more? I’ve not checked the list prices). But neither me nor Sub Press make anything off those e-bay transactions.
So, the upshot is, Subterranean Press had to step back. The idea had been for a 500 run. Five hundred two-volume sets. I’d probably receive ten sets as comps, of which more than half would go to close friends and the like). But for this to work for Sub Press, the list price would have to be at least a grand. That’s one thousand USD. Being a cautious and reasonable publisher, there’s no way the company could foot the bill for a product that might prove too expensive to find a market. And I can’t argue with that at all.
But I wasn’t quite ready to surrender. So, on my own back as it were, and in no way implying any promises from Subterranean Press, I thought I’d test the waters and just put it out there, which is what this post is.

Are there 490 fans of the series out there prepared to buy into such a thing? I’d need to have a firm answer in the positive before I’d bother the people at Subterranean Press again.
As one last note. This is kind of explains the whole business with the iconic image idea, doesn’t it? Which is why one of my original mock-ups used the Extrude feature on Photoshop, and why monochrome (barring the line of blood) was necessary. That said, that sword and hand image would not have any words added for the book cover or the spine. In fact, me putting in the word ‘MALAZ’ may have been a red herring. Is it all making more sense now?
The challenge facing me now is, somehow coming up with a reliable list of confirmed potential buyers. I’d need that in pretty clear terms before I bother Sub Press again. This post will, I hope, give me a rough estimate of levels of genuine interest and commitment (even assuming that half of those wanting to buy the set will eventually bow out, because, cripes, we’re talking a chunk of money here).
In my mind, I pretty much expect the interest to be insufficient. I’m not aware of any new books, even a two-volume set, costing what these would cost. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. So, cry havoc and let loose…

Zaten yazının bir kısmında e-bay’deki fahiş fiyatlar da yer alıyor. 500 hedef var, 10 tanesini kendisi alacakmış, 490 potansiyel müşteri bulursa bu işe girecek.
1000-1500 dolares bana çok maalesef. İmzalı kitapları almak bile gayet maliyetli olmuştu. 250-500 bandında olsa hanımdan yine kaçırır bir şekil alırdım da 1500 doları kaçırmak biraz sıkıntı.

Ama evet biz üçüncü dünya garibanları için 1-1.5k dolarlar çok saçma meblağlar. O paraya kendiniz tasarımcı işe alıp kendiniz bastırıp deri cilt yaptırıp üstünü altıgen sıkışık düzende altın sikkelerle kaplatabilirsiniz.
